    Carol Rohl
Carol Rohl of Warren, was one of four patients honored at New England Rehabilitation Hospital's patient award ceremony held on September 19, 2007.

Carol is 53 years old and had a stroke in 2004. Prior to her stroke, she was a professional harpist and singer who performed with her musician husband, Gordon Bok. She had lost the use of her left arm and was unable to walk. Ongoing physical and occupational therapy occurred during her two month stay at NERHP. Carol worked with Outward Bound Expeditions for seven years as a Coast Guard licensed powerboat operator. She also accompanied a crew who sailed from Rockport, Maine to Ireland. Her care providers feel that her inner strength and resilience needed to meet the new demands of a stroke came from those experiences.

Today Carol is walking and the use of her left arm has improved to the point where she is playing the harp and performing with her husband in a limited capacity.

"I think Carol embodies all that we hope our patients will achieve with their stroke recovery," states Dave Hesselink, NERHP occupational therapist. "I saw Carol performing this year again with Gordon on stage. She was proud and confident."
