Randy Rousseau
As part of National Rehabilitation Week, September 21st through September 27th, New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland celebrated the accomplishments of four exemplary patients. Our staff nominates and selects patients who have overcome major barriers while recovering and rehabilitating from illness or injury. Their achievements were recognized at an awards ceremony to be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008.
Randy Rousseau, from Meredith, NH, was selected as one of the patient award winners. Randy had a severe stroke that left him with impaired movement and inability to speak. He was unable to sit or stand on his own. He worked very hard with his therapy and was a motivation and role model for other patients. "What really makes Randy remarkable was his cheerful, inspirational and motivational personality. He always gave 110%,” stated his physical therapist Sarah Payeur.
Since the awards ceremony, Randy has moved to North Carolina with his son and his wife, Cody and Jasmine. He called in recently to let us know that he was doing well, was mowing lawns and getting back into circulation. Randy wants to volunteer some of his time at a hospital where he hopes to help others who have suffered from a stroke.
