Leo Gaulde
Leo is a 56-year-old male from Biddeford who had multiple strokes and medical complications. He was admitted to New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland in August of 2004. Upon admission he was disorientated and severely agitated, had global aphasia (unable to speak or understand language). He required One-to-One supervision 24 hours per day.
Leo's acute rehabilitation plan at New England Rehabilitation Hospital included treatment with medication and rehab intervention to improve his attention span, concentration, memory and carry-over.
By the time he was discharged, he was independent with his activities of daily living. With continued outpatient rehabilitation, he continues to improve. In fact, he now has returned to driving and, much to his great joy, can once again baby sit for his grandchildren!
